Paris - the perfect gift for my Parents
In years gone by, my parents used to enjoy travelling all over Europe for their summer holidays. Unfortunately in recent years their health has meant that travelling abroad has become increasingly difficult. That is, of course, until the arrival of the channel tunnel. In my eyes this makes France little more than an extension of our own country, in terms of logistics. I think my parents feared it somewhat, but I was sick of them bemoaning the fact that they never got to go away anymore, so I made sure their passports were still in date, and I stowed them away in the car for a trip to Paris!
I had already checked to see if there were any cheap hotels in Paris which were wheel chair friendly and I had managed to find one close to the Centre of the city. The great thing about Paris is, like London, an awful lot of it was on the flat. Unlike London, Paris is also a manageable size, and I knew that my parents, despite their frailty, would be able to make their way about, albeit slowly.
They both loved being abroad again, and the fact that they both spoke French so well meant that I was relying on them as heavily as they were relying on me – so I think that made them feel a lot more at ease about the whole trip.
I think Paris is a fantastic location for the slightly more elderly person, and my parents certainly enjoyed themselves.
